The shortcut key, as the name suggests it means that it leads to a short way to do any task. So basically the short cut key is a set of one or more than one key to perform a specific task on the computer. If you are a student of computer science or doing a job which is related to the computer or if you want to make yourself cool then you must know these keyboard short cut keys.
In this article, I will be discussing the 20 most useful keyboard shortcuts. I recommend you to use these shortcuts to become master of the keyboard.
1 & 2. Backspace and Delete keys: Both the keys are used to delete particular items like files, texts or images. In text the Backspace key deletes the text backward from the cursor but the Delete key deletes the key forward from the cursor.
3. Alt+ Tab: Alt+Tab is a shortcut key most often used to switch between open programs in Microsoft Windows and other operating systems.
4.Alt+ F4: Alt+F4 is a shortcut key most often used to close the currently active window. If you press those keys while on the home screen you can easily turn off the computer from that.
5. Windows+ D: Pressing the Windows Key and the letter 'D' simultaneously will minimize any folder/program/window that is on the screen at the time.
6. F12: F12 is mostly used in MS office. It opens the "Save as" dialog.
7. Ctrl+ S: This key is used to save changes to a document.
8. Ctrl+ N: Ctrl+N is a shortcut key most often used to create a new document, window, workbook, or another type of file.
9. Ctrl+ T: Ctrl+ T is very useful to open a new tab in an internet browser like Chrome, Opera.
10. Ctrl+ H: In Chrome to open the History this key is used.
11. Ctrl+ J: This shortcut opens the downloads page in an internet browser.
12. Ctrl+ Shift+ N: It is often used to open an incognito window in an internet browser.
13. Ctrl+D: It is used to Bookmark currently open website on your browser.
14. Ctrl+Shift+ T: It is a very interesting shortcut to recover the last closed tab in Chrome and other browsers.
15. Ctrl+ click: To select multiple files it can be used. Another use of this shortcut is to open the link in another tab in an internet browser.
16. Ctrl+ Shift+ Esc: It is used to open the task manager.
17& 18. Home and End keys: 'Home' takes you to the top of the page. 'End' takes you to the bottom. If the cursor is in a text line then The Home key moves the cursor to the beginning of line and End to end of the line.
19 & 20. Ctrl+ C & Ctrl+ V: These are mostly used shortcuts. Ctrl+ C is used to copy selected item and Ctrl+ V is used to paste the same.
