Megapixel: Higher megapixel or MP doesn't indicate better quality image.

We all use megapixel or MP term in our daily life to express the details about the camera quality of our smartphone.

Everyone thinks that higher megapixel camera indicates the image quality of that camera should be higher. But truely say it is not true. Lower megapixel camera can produce better image than the higher megapixel camera. Yes you read right.
Actually many people have no perfect idea about the megapixel or MP theory of the camera of there smartphone.

So why higher megapixel camera might not be produce the higher quality images comparing to the lower megapixel camera?

We will discuss about that and make yourself free of confusion. Before that I will give you an interesting example that till now among all smartphone the Google Pixel 2 XL has the best camera. But you will get surprise when you will know that it has only 12.2 megapixel camera, which is lower than many available smartphones right now but that 12.2 MP camera performs best.

You already know that only megapixel  doesn't indicate the camera quality. Megapixel refers to the size of an image. A megapixel means one million pixels. So a 12 megapixel camera can produce images with 12 million total pixels. Photos with more megapixel are larger in file size.

The main factor which describes the quality of the image captured by camera is the sensor size. There exist a sensor behind the camera lens always. More the size of the sensor is more it can produce the details of the object which is captured. The sensor converts the light into electric signal, which are digitalized assigning colour to every pixel.
That is why the more Megapixel does not mean more quality.
