Specially for live sports show it is generated multiple times and for other tv shows one or two times. This numbers are basically a key number which is generated by the set-top box using hasing algorithm. This key number is unique for each set-top box, if you compare two tv running on different set- top box you will find the numbers are not same.

But what is the purpose of the number?

The number is used to track you or the set top box if anyone tries to online stream the tv shows or the live sports by capturing through camera or screen recorder from the tv. The authority can see the key number and they will find which set-top box generate that number and block that set-top box.

So to stop the piracy the random unique number is generated. This number is like a digital watermark. It can be blur on the captured video but its very tricky task and many people don't know this reason hence, they get caught.
